The Healing Africa Foundation is proud to confirm that it is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) in South Africa, approved by SARS to issue Section 18A Certificates for qualifying donations. This means that when you partner with The Healing Africa Foundation, your contribution not only fuels meaningful humanitarian impact – it also brings you a recognised tax benefit. It’s truly a win for both purpose and prudence.
Here’s what you need to know about Section 18A Certificates – what they are, which donations qualify and how they benefit you as a donor.
What is a Section 18A Certificate?
Section 18A is a provision in South Africa’s Income Tax Act that allows individuals, companies and trusts to deduct bona fide donations made to approved organisations like The Healing Africa Foundation – provided those organisations are authorised to issue Section 18A tax receipts.
A Section 18A Certificate is the official proof of your qualifying donation. It’s what you submit to SARS when you claim your deduction. Without it, your donation cannot be used to reduce your taxable income.
Since 1 March 2023, SARS has strengthened the rules to ensure greater transparency, requiring more donor details on certificates to improve audit and compliance standards. So make sure to let us know your full name, ID or company registration number, ID type and country of issue, tax number (if available), contact number, email address and trading name (if different) when you make your donation.
What Donations Qualify?
Qualifying donations can include:
- Cash contributions, such as EFTs or cheques.
- Donations in kind, such as goods, equipment or inventory, provided ownership is transferred to the organisation.
- Certain non-cash gifts, like pre-paid vouchers, media airtime (if transferable) and physical assets – as long as they meet SARS’s criteria for value and utility.
How Receiving a Section 18A Certificate benefits you:
1. Tax deduction
When you donate to The Healing Africa Foundation (or any other Section 18A-approved organisation) and receive a valid certificate, you can deduct that amount from your taxable income, lowering your overall tax liability.
2. Limit of 10 % of taxable income
3. Avoidance of donations tax
Donations made to registered PBOs with Section 18A status are often exempt from donations tax, thereby providing further savings while ensuring your generosity reaches its full impact.
4. Enhanced credibility and reporting
Using Section 18A Certificates helps make your giving transparent, accountable and auditable. This is particularly valued by corporates and boards that prioritise responsible, well-documented philanthropy.

Our projects focus on high-impact, grassroots initiatives that respond to both the social and economic needs of South African communities. From sports and recreation programmes that build confidence and life skills, to early childhood development support through mobile toy libraries and educator training, we’re helping children grow in safe and stimulating environments. Through enterprise development and skills training, we empower local entrepreneurs – especially women and youth – to build sustainable livelihoods. We also drive governance and capacity-building projects that strengthen local organisations, improve reporting and compliance frameworks, and ensure donor funds are managed transparently and effectively. Alongside our work in eco-green initiatives, housing and basic services and gender-based violence prevention, these projects reflect HAF’s commitment to humanity, accountability and lasting impact.
