The Healing Africa Foundation Project Press Release – Early Childhood Development Support in Diepsloot
Nebula Logistics Africa Partners with The Healing Africa Foundation and The Wot-if? Trust in a Landmark Social Development Project to uplift Early Childhood Development Centres in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, South Africa.
In a significant boost to early childhood education in Diepsloot, Nebula Logistics Africa donated R200,000 and appointed project managers, The Healing Africa Foundation, working in association with The Wot-if? Trust. This collaboration had a tangible impact on 10 Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD) by providing them with vital learning materials and lesson plans in a workshop on the 24th of February 2024. The overall theme was Play-Based Learning.

Recognising the pivotal role of quality early education, this initiative targets ECD Centres facing numerous challenges, including understaffing, some centres operate with as few as three teachers for up to 100 children, and a lack of essential teaching resources. These centres cater to children aged three months to six years, a crucial period for cognitive, emotional, and social development.
IMPORTANCE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
The importance of early childhood development, especially for underprivileged children, cannot be overstated. These foundational years are crucial for setting the stage for lifelong learning, behaviour, and health. Access to proper early development opportunities is necessary for these children to avoid significant disadvantages, impacting their ability to succeed in school and later in life.
Early childhood development programs not only support these children’s cognitive and emotional growth but also provide a critical stepping stone towards breaking the cycle of poverty. Through investing in early childhood education, we’re investing in a brighter future for all, ensuring that every child has the chance to reach their full potential
THE PROJECT
The project kick-started with a February 24, 2024 workshop, gathering ECD Centre owners to distribute the sponsored materials supplied and packed by Westpack Hobart Centre. These packs included various items crucial for developmental learning, such as paper, crayons, pencils, paints, brushes, learning flashcards, instruments, play dough, music flash drives, plastic insects, and other educational toys.
LESSON PLANS & WORKSHOP FACILITATION
Catherine Austen played a pivotal role by introducing her specialised lesson plans, emphasising Learning through Music and Movement – Enrichment. This approach brings a holistic perspective to early childhood education. She also led the morning workshop, demonstrating how to effectively implement these strategies to maximise benefits for the young learners. The workshop was a lively session filled with fun and interactive play, ensuring that the educational concepts were both engaging and beneficial.
WORKING IN ASSOCIATION WITH A LOCAL ORGANISATION
The Wot-if? Trust, known for its commitment to transforming lives in Diepsloot through innovative and sustainable community development initiatives, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s potential impact. It not only earmarked and selected the ten ECDs based on its extensive ten years of working in Diepsloot but it also hosted the training session that took place. “This collaboration stands as a testament to what can be achieved when organisations unite with a common purpose. The Healing Africa Foundation, a pivotal player in uplifting underprivileged communities, highlighted the project’s significance in enhancing the lives of those in Diepsloot. “Education is the cornerstone of community development. The project was initially made possible through the foresight of Ndwala Construction, which funded a needs analysis revealing the dire circumstances of many ECD Centres in Diepsloot. This groundwork laid the foundation for a targeted intervention designed to meet the specific needs of these centres.
